Overview
DX-W5 is a solenoid-locking guard interlock switch designed for movable machine guards (hinged or sliding safety doors, fence gates, enclosure panels) on machine tools and automated production equipment. When the guard is closed, the switch verifies the closed position and the solenoid engages the mechanical lock so the door cannot be opened while hazardous motion inside continues; it releases when the corresponding control signal (or, on GC versions, a mechanical/manual action) removes the lock. It is intended for machine builders, panel integrators and end users who need a compact, multi-contact interlock at fence/door points feeding a safety relay or safety PLC input.
The DX-W5 provides six gold-plated silver-alloy contact blocks across four NC/NO configurations (2CO/2CO, 3C/2CO, 2CO/3C, 3C/3C), each offered in two locking-direction versions (GD, GC), for eight order codes in total. It is rated at 1300 N holding force, accepts a 24 V DC or 10-115 V AC/DC solenoid supply with a 10-115 V AC/DC indicator light, and carries IP67 protection with an electrical life greater than 150,000 operations.

Six contact blocks, four configurations from one device
2CO/2CO, 3C/2CO, 2CO/3C and 3C/3C combinations are each available as GD or GC, giving eight order codes in total. A single interlock can supply multi-channel NC safety contacts plus separate NO contacts for lock-state monitoring and PLC status, avoiding extra contact-expansion modules.

How to Select
- Choose contact configuration by the number of independent NC safety channels and NO status-indication points needed: 2CO/2CO, 3C/2CO, 2CO/3C or 3C/3C, where C is a normally-closed contact, O is a normally-open contact, and the number is the count of that contact type in the block.
- Choose locking direction by the safety circuit's required fail logic: GD is solenoid-locked and mechanically released, GC is mechanically-locked and solenoid-released; both directions are available for every contact configuration, so contact count does not have to be traded off against locking logic.
- Choose supply voltage to match the installation: the solenoid accepts 24 V DC or 10-115 V AC/DC, and the indicator light accepts 10-115 V AC/DC, so no separate transformer is required.
- All eight standard DX-W5 order codes use a G (M20 conduit entry, unwired) with a metal (J) head; confirm with the factory if a cable (X) or plastic-head (S) variant is required.
- Add the optional front or side emergency release if the machine's risk assessment requires a manual release path for a trapped operator.
- Within the DX-W family, choose DX-W5 for the highest contact count (6 blocks in 4 configurations); choose DX-W2 for more configuration flexibility (14 combinations); choose DX-W3 for a simplified 2-contact version.

When NOT to specify the DX-W5 — and what to use instead
The circuit only needs 1-2 contact channels and the full 6-contact-block device would go largely unused.
Why not: DX-W5 provides the platform's highest contact count -- 6 gold-plated blocks across 4 configurations.
Use instead: DX-W3 (2 contact blocks) or DX-W2 (4 contact blocks, more configuration flexibility)
The application needs RFID-coded or electronic transistor output rather than mechanical contacts.
Why not: DX-W5 is a mechanical-contact device intended for relay-based circuits.
Use instead: DX-D6 guard-locking switch
The specification requires a documented mechanical life cycle figure.
Why not: DX-W5's mechanical life is not stated in the current source data (only its >150,000-operation electrical life is published).
Use instead: DX-W2, which publishes a 1,000,000-cycle mechanical life on the same platform, if that figure is a hard requirement
The risk assessment calculates guard-opening forces above the rated 1300 N holding force.
Why not: 1300 N is DX-W5's published holding force, the same rating as DX-W2/DX-W3 despite the higher contact count.
Use instead: DX-D6 (2000 N holding force) if an electronic RFID output is acceptable, or consult the factory for supplementary restraint
The specification requires a documented forced-separation (manual-override) force and travel.
Why not: Unlike DX-W2 (>=80N/>=10mm) and DX-W3 (>=60N), DX-W5's forced-separation force/travel is not stated in the current source data.
