Overview

JT14 is a pressure-sensitive floor mat that generates a switching signal when a person steps on it. The mat itself is a passive, volt-free sensing element with a normally open (N.O.) dry contact output — it does not evaluate the signal on its own; the contact is wired into a safety relay, such as our DQSRN safety relay or DA31 e-stop relay, to form a complete safety function. It is positioned as the economical tier within our safety mat range, built with an NBR rubber surface and aluminum trim edging, and suits integrators and end users who need to guard an irregular floor area around machines or robot cells without the cost of a fully enclosed premium mat.

The JT14 has an actuating force of ≥30 kg for an adult and a response time of ≤30 ms, with a compressive strength rating up to 1000 kg/cm² and an IP65 protection rating suitable for washdown floor areas. It is rated for 1,000,000 mechanical operations and is available in 6 standard catalog sizes from 250×500 mm to 1100×1800 mm, plus custom sizes and free polygon shapes to follow irregular machine footprints. It is designed to ISO 13856-1, referenced at Performance Level d (PL d) per EN ISO 13849-1.

Features & Benefits

Actuating force ≥ 30 kg

Detects a person stepping on the mat while helping avoid nuisance trips from lightweight dropped items.

Response time ≤ 30 ms

Fast signal output from actuation to contact switching. Total machine stopping time still depends on the connected equipment's braking performance, not the mat alone.

Load rating up to 1000 kg/cm²

A high compressive strength rating reduces concern about surface damage from heavy static loads on the mat.

IP65-rated sealed construction

Dust-tight and protected against water jets, suitable for floor areas that require washdown cleaning.

NBR rubber surface with aluminum trim edging; 1,000,000-operation mechanical life

The trim edging protects the perimeter of the sensing core — the most vulnerable point — and reduces trip hazard from a raw edge, while the rated mechanical life supports long-term repeated use.

Passive volt-free N.O. contact output

No power is required at the mat itself; the signal is evaluated by a separate safety relay, giving a simple failure mode at the sensing element.

Designed to ISO 13856-1, Performance Level d (PL d)

References the international standard for pressure-sensitive protective devices, a common first-pass requirement in machine safety procurement.

Custom sizes and free polygon shapes

Beyond the 6 catalog sizes, custom dimensions and irregular polygon outlines let the mat follow machine footprints without unguarded gaps.

Economical positioning for large-area or multi-zone guarding

Catalog-designated economical tier, offering a cost advantage when guarding large continuous areas or multiple work zones.

Applications

Robot cell floor perimeter guardingThe volt-free dry contact output can be wired into an existing safety relay circuit to detect a person entering the robot's working range.
Press brake / stamping press operator stationThe ≥30 kg actuating force suits detecting an operator's standing position, working with the machine's existing safety circuit.
Maintenance area entry detectionThe normally open (N.O.) signal can be used for presence detection at a maintenance access route.
Machine footprint with irregular boundariesCustom free polygon shapes let the mat follow the outline of machine bases, columns, or cable runs.
Large continuous floor guarding around fenced linesThe economical positioning gives a cost advantage when laying mats around the full perimeter of a fenced production line.
Multi-workstation floor guardingThe 6 standard sizes plus custom dimensions can cover the floor guarding needs of different workstations.
Washdown or wet-process floor areasThe IP65 protection rating suits floor areas subject to washdown; it does not by itself indicate resistance to specific cleaning chemicals or oils.

How to Select

  1. Choose from the 6 standard sizes (250×500 mm to 1100×1800 mm) named as JT14-Width*Length (mm).
  2. All 6 standard sizes are rectangular; for irregular boundaries such as machine bases, columns, or cable runs, request a custom free-polygon layout with your site outline dimensions.
  3. The mat outputs a passive volt-free N.O. dry contact — pair it with a safety relay, such as our DQSRN safety relay or DA31 e-stop relay, and confirm the relay model and wiring before ordering.
  4. For washdown or wet floor areas the IP65 rating applies; confirm chemical or oil resistance separately if your environment requires it.
  5. If your machine safety assessment requires PL d per EN ISO 13849-1 or alignment with ISO 13856-1, the JT14 is designed to that standard; certification documents are available on request.

When NOT to specify the JT14 — and what to use instead

Guarding a perimeter or vertical opening rather than a floor area

Why not: JT14 is a floor presence mat that detects step-on pressure; it does not sense intrusion into a vertical plane.

Use instead: A light curtain (DQC/DQA/DQT/DQT4) or ST27 laser scanner for perimeter/area guarding

Forklifts, pallet trucks, or other wheeled loads will drive over the guarded area regularly

Why not: JT14's compressive strength rating is up to 1000 kg/cm²; sustained wheeled-vehicle traffic beyond typical foot-traffic duty is not confirmed as within its rated use.

Use instead: Confirm loading with the factory; a hard guard fence or a light curtain may better suit vehicle-trafficked boundaries

Needing a self-contained safety function without wiring an external relay

Why not: JT14's output is a passive, volt-free normally open dry contact that 'does not evaluate the signal on its own' — an external safety relay is mandatory to form a complete safety function.

Use instead: Pair with DQSRN or DA31 safety relay module

Detecting a body weight lighter than an adult (e.g. a light object or small load) must reliably trip the mat

Why not: Actuating force is rated at '≥30 kg for an adult' — loads lighter than this are not guaranteed to trigger the contact.

Use instead: Consult the factory for lower-threshold sensing needs

The environment involves oil or specific cleaning chemicals beyond plain water washdown

Why not: IP65 protects against dust and water jets but 'does not by itself indicate resistance to specific cleaning chemicals or oils' per the product's own FAQ.

Use instead: Confirm chemical/oil resistance with the factory before specifying

Frequently Asked Questions

What output does the JT14 safety mat provide?
The JT14 outputs a passive, volt-free normally open (N.O.) dry contact. It does not require power at the mat itself, and the signal must be evaluated by an external safety relay, such as our DQSRN safety relay or DA31 e-stop relay.
What is the actuating force of the JT14?
The actuating force is ≥30 kg for an adult stepping on the mat.
How fast does the JT14 respond after being stepped on?
Response time is ≤30 ms from actuation to contact switching. This is the mat's own response time; total machine stopping time depends on the connected equipment's braking performance.
What sizes does the JT14 come in?
Six catalog sizes (in mm): 250×500, 500×500, 500×1000, 750×1000, 1000×1000, and 1100×1800. Custom sizes and free polygon shapes are also available — contact us to confirm the exact custom range for your project.
Is the JT14 waterproof?
The JT14 carries an IP65 protection rating, meaning it is dust-tight and protected against water jets — suitable for floor areas subject to washdown. IP65 does not by itself indicate resistance to specific cleaning chemicals or oils.
What standard is the JT14 designed to?
The JT14 is designed to ISO 13856-1 (pressure-sensitive protective devices), referenced at Performance Level d (PL d) per EN ISO 13849-1. Certification documents are available on request.
Does the JT14 need its own power supply?
No — as a passive volt-free dry contact device, the sensing mat itself does not require power. Power is only needed on the safety relay side that evaluates the signal.
What is the mechanical life of the JT14?
The JT14 is rated for 1,000,000 operations.
Can the JT14 be shaped to fit an irregular guarded area?
Yes — beyond the 6 standard sizes, the JT14 can be custom-made in free polygon shapes to follow machine footprints, cut-outs, and irregular boundaries.
How does the JT14 differ from a light curtain or laser scanner for floor protection?
A light curtain guards a vertical plane of intrusion and a laser scanner performs horizontal area scanning; the JT14 safety mat performs floor presence/step-on detection using pressure-sensitive, non-optical technology, so it continues to output a signal even when a person is standing still, without dependence on optical or lighting conditions.
