Overview
The DQE is DAIDISIKE's economical infrared through-beam (opposed-mode) safety light curtain: a compact 30 x 30 mm transmitter and receiver that guard a machine opening with a plane of modulated infrared beams, stopping the machine when any beam is broken. It is designed to the Type 4 architecture of IEC 61496-1 and -3 and to Category 4 of ISO 13849-1 (the catalog also cites EN 61496-3:2019 Type 4 and EN 13849-1:2015), and the catalog positions it as the compact, high-value option for presses, hydraulic and oil presses, shearing machines, automatic doors and more than 80% of equipment needing point-of-operation or access guarding.
Where the general-purpose DQC offers eight beam pitches, the DQE is streamlined to five — 10, 20, 40, 80 and 200 mm — keeping the same detection accuracy relationship (pitch + 8 mm). It is configured from 4 to 72 beam axes, with protected heights up to 3800 mm at the coarser pitches. Standard sensing distance is 0.3-3 m, with 0.3-6 m available as model code B and longer distances on request.
Output is NPN or PNP, normally open or normally closed, selected by model code, wired via a 6-core cable for a single output signal or a 7-core cable for dual output. The 30 x 30 mm aluminium housing self-checks continuously, rejects 99% of interference from electromagnetic noise, flickering lamps and welding arcs, and connects through an M12 aviation connector.
Features & Benefits
Up to 72 beams in a single curtain, spanning heights to 3800 mm
Fine 10 mm pitch reaches 70 beams (DQE70/10-690); 20 mm pitch reaches 72 beams (DQE72/20-1420); 40 mm pitch reaches protective heights up to 2840 mm; 200 mm pitch reaches up to 3800 mm — all without cascading multiple units.
Optional built-in controller (DQET) reduces cabinet wiring
Choosing a built-in-controller version (the DQE controller designation is being confirmed -- see dataGaps) integrates the control logic into the curtain, removing the need for a separate external control box and its associated cabinet wiring.
0.3-3 m standard operating range, extendable to 6 m
Standard detection range is 0.3-3 m, with special-order units available up to 6 m, giving installers more margin on wide machine openings than a 3 m-class product.
NPN/PNP selectable transistor output
The signal-output selection table offers both NPN and PNP transistor output options, giving flexibility to match different PLC/controller input types.
≤15 ms response time
A response time of 15 ms or less supports shorter minimum safety distance calculations, useful where machine mounting space is limited.
Five beam-pitch options from 10 mm to 200 mm
DQE is offered at 10, 20, 40, 80 and 200 mm beam pitch, so the detection resolution can be matched to the hazard type — from finer hand/finger detection at 10-20 mm to body/access detection at 80-200 mm.
Shares the DQCA mounting-accessory platform with the DQC series
Mounting accessories DQCA-01 through DQCA-05 are shared across the DQE and DQC series, simplifying spare-parts inventory for customers running both series.

How to read the DQE model code
How the DQE differs from the DQC
How to Select
- Choose beam pitch by hazard type: 10 mm or 20 mm for finger/hand-level detection (e.g. near-hand zones on press brakes and stamping machines); 40 mm or 80 mm for arm/limb-level detection; 200 mm for body/access-level entry detection, typically paired with larger protective heights.
- Choose protective height/model by opening dimension using the naming rule DQE + beam count (2 digits) + / + beam pitch (mm) + - + protective height (mm) — e.g. DQE70/10-690 is 10 mm pitch, 70 beams, 690 mm protective height; DQE20/200-3800 is 200 mm pitch, 20 beams, 3800 mm protective height.
- Choose output type from the transistor output signal-output selection table (NPN or PNP) to match your PLC/controller input type; select a built-in-controller version (designation to be confirmed) if you need to reduce external cabinet wiring.
- Verify the standard 0.3-3 m detection range against machine opening width; ask about special-order units up to 6 m if extra margin is needed.
- Confirm wiring (six-core or dual seven-core) and mounting accessories (DQCA-01 through DQCA-05, shared with the DQC series) before ordering.

When NOT to specify the DQE — and what to use instead
You need a beam pitch of 14, 25 or 30 mm
Why not: The DQE is streamlined to five pitches — 10, 20, 40, 80 and 200 mm. The intermediate 14, 25 and 30 mm pitches are not offered on the DQE.
Use instead: The general-purpose DQC, which offers all eight pitches (10/14/20/25/30/40/80/200 mm).
The transmitter-to-receiver span exceeds 6 m
Why not: The DQE standard sensing distance is 0.3-3 m, with 0.3-6 m as code B. Beyond 6 m the beams do not reliably reach the receiver.
Use instead: The DQA long-range safety light curtain, selectable up to 0.3-40 m on the same optical principle.
You need true 14 mm finger detection capability
Why not: The finest DQE pitch is 10 mm, but its detection accuracy — the minimum object it reliably detects — is 18 mm (pitch + 8 mm), a hand-level rather than a strict 14 mm finger figure.
Use instead: Confirm the required detection capability against your ISO 13855 risk assessment; ask us for a finer-resolution series if 14 mm finger detection is mandatory.
Washdown, high-pressure hosing or wet environments
Why not: The DQE is an economical through-beam curtain for general industrial use; its published data does not cover high-pressure jetting or immersion.
Use instead: The DQR waterproof safety light curtain series for wet or washdown areas.
You need a volt-free relay output
Why not: The DQE output is NPN or PNP solid-state (per model code A/B/C/D). No relay-output code is listed for the DQE.
Use instead: The DQC or DQA (which list a relay-output J code), or add an external safety relay such as DA31 or DQSRN to provide volt-free contacts.
Specifications we do not publish yet
We only publish a figure once we are confident it is true. The items below are still being validated through further testing and real-world customer feedback, so for now we would rather leave them open than guess. If one of them matters to your design, ask us for the latest validated status.
- PFHd, MTTFd and DCavg figures needed to integrate the DQE into a full ISO 13849-1 machine calculation. The catalog states Category 4 but does not publish these numbers.
- Safety-distance calculation guidance (ISO 13855) and the exact response time per beam count — the catalog gives only the <= 15 ms maximum.
- IP enclosure rating, supply voltage, current consumption, operating temperature and humidity are not separately restated on the DQE catalog page; the DQC page of the same 30 mm through-beam platform lists IP65, DC 12/24 V, <= 200 mA and -10 to +40 degrees C — confirm these apply to the DQE before designing them in.
- Controller pairing: the current catalog lists the DQCA / DQCA2 controller; if your documentation references a DQET controller, ask us to confirm before ordering
- Machine-safety (ESPE) certification: the TÜV SÜD certificate on file (E8A 104143 0001) covers EMC (Directive 2014/30/EU) only. An IEC 61496 EU-Type Examination certificate from a notified body — the document that would substantiate a Type 4 / Category 4 safety-function claim — and any UL listing are not yet on hand. Certification documents available on request.
- Muting and blanking function availability.
- Cable length options and the aviation-connector pinout.
