Overview

BX is a background-suppression (BGS) photoelectric switch family covering two detection ranges - the BX-H4000 (adjustable 50-4000 mm, invisible infrared, retro-reflective-comparable range) and the BX-G2000 / BX-S2000 (adjustable 30-2000 mm diffuse reflective, LED wide spot or laser small spot).

BX-H4000 is available in NPN or PNP; BX-G2000/BX-S2000 are NPN (PNP unconfirmed), with switchable N.O./N.C. logic and 2 ms response time, running on DC12-24V. It is built for engineers who need reliable single-sided object detection at a distance where a standard diffuse sensor would lose reliability or need a reflector, but who cannot or prefer not to run wiring to an opposite-side receiver or mount a reflective target.

Features & Benefits

Background suppression at up to 4 meters from one side

The BX-H4000 covers a 50-4000 mm adjustable sensing range without a reflector or opposite-side receiver. The manual specifies minimal black/white distance variation within 2000 mm, meaning target color and reflectivity have little effect on the set point in that zone.

Three optical versions matched to different targets

BX-H4000 uses invisible infrared for maximum 4 m reach. BX-G2000 uses a wide visible-red LED spot suited to uneven or slightly shifting target surfaces and easy visual alignment. BX-S2000 uses a 2-3 mm visible laser spot for pinpoint accuracy at range.

2 ms response time across the series

All three BX models respond in 2 ms, suitable for detecting moving targets on conveyors and sorting lines without missed triggers.

Selectable N.O./N.C. output logic

Output logic (Light-ON/Dark-ON) is switchable via the white wire, so the same unit can be wired for either target-present-ON or target-present-OFF logic without ordering a different part.

Adjustable sensing distance on every model

Sensing range is field-adjustable across the full rated window - 50-4000 mm on H4000, 30-2000 mm on G2000/S2000 - letting the same sensor be set for different mounting distances on a line.

Applications

Pallet or unit-load presence detection on conveyor/AS-RS lanesBX-H4000 covers 50-4000 mm, spanning roughly 0.05-4 m detection on conveyor and automated storage lanes with single-sided mounting, avoiding opposite-side wiring or reflector installation.
Single-sided detection where opposite-side wiring is impracticalThe background suppression principle supports single-sided mounting for reliable long-range detection without running wiring to an opposite-side receiver.
Detecting targets with varying surface color or reflectivity within 2 mThe manual notes minimal black/white distance variation within this range, so the detection point is little affected by the target's reflectivity.
Bulky or large-package detection on logistics sorting linesLong detection range combined with an adjustable sensing window suits larger targets and longer mounting distances on sorting lines.
Precision spot detection at a distance using a visible laser referenceBX-S2000 provides a 2-3 mm laser spot, combining long range with precise positioning at the detection point.
Alignment-friendly detection on uneven or slightly shifting targetsBX-G2000's wide spot is easier to align visually and tolerates small variations in target surface or position.
Fast-moving target detection on conveyor and sorting equipmentA 2 ms response time suits target capture at higher line speeds on conveyor and sorting equipment.

How to Select

  1. Need up to 4 m single-sided detection with no reflector: choose BX-H4000 (50-4000 mm adjustable).
  2. Need up to 2 m diffuse detection: choose BX-G2000 or BX-S2000 (30-2000 mm adjustable).
  3. Target surface is uneven or shifting and you want a visible alignment spot: choose BX-G2000 (wide visible-red spot).
  4. Need pinpoint accuracy at range with a visible reference: choose BX-S2000 (2-3 mm laser spot).
  5. Need maximum reach and don't need a visible beam: choose BX-H4000 (invisible IR).
  6. All BX models are NPN output with N.O./N.C. switchable via the white wire, so confirm your controller's input type before wiring.
  7. All models run on DC12-24V, so confirm your control cabinet's available DC rail matches before installation.
  8. All three models share the same 2 ms response time, so choose based on range and optics rather than response speed.

When NOT to specify the BX — and what to use instead

Outdoor installation, washdown, or any environment with dust/water exposure

Why not: No IP ingress-protection rating is published anywhere in the current BX series data.

Use instead: confirm an IP rating with us first, or choose a sensor with a published rating such as the BGS-CX61 (IP67) or the strip-beam DK-D461/D561 (IP65)

A PNP output is required on the diffuse BX-G2000 or BX-S2000 models

Why not: Only the NPN output is confirmed in the current catalog for BX-G2000/BX-S2000; PNP availability for these two is unconfirmed.

Use instead: the BX-H4000 (confirmed NPN and PNP), or confirm PNP availability with us directly for G2000/S2000

Mounting distance under 50 mm (BX-H4000) or under 30 mm (BX-G2000/S2000)

Why not: The published adjustable ranges start at 50 mm for BX-H4000 and 30 mm for BX-G2000/S2000 - these are not close-range sensors.

Use instead: a background-suppression model built for close range, e.g. BGS-CX441 (10-100 mm adjustable)

Detecting very small parts or positioning against a narrow feature at long range

Why not: No minimum detectable object size is published for the BX series; the family is built for long single-sided reach, not sub-spot precision.

Use instead: the strip-beam DK-D461/D561 for narrow-target detection, or a small-spot background-suppression sensor such as BGS-CX61

Personnel guarding or any safety-related presence detection

Why not: No safety rating or safety certification is published for the BX series.

Use instead: a certified safety light curtain (e.g. DQC/DQA series) for personnel protection

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum detection distance of the BX series?
The BX-H4000 offers an adjustable range of 50-4000 mm. The BX-G2000 and BX-S2000 offer an adjustable range of 30-2000 mm.
Does the BX series need a reflector to detect targets?
No. BX-H4000 is a reflective-type sensor with background suppression that mounts on one side without a reflector or opposite-side receiver. BX-G2000 and BX-S2000 are diffuse reflective sensors that detect directly off the target surface, no reflector required.
What is background suppression and why does it matter at long range?
Background suppression limits the sensor's detection window to a set distance range so that objects or walls behind the target do not trigger a false detection. On the BX-H4000, the manual notes minimal black/white distance variation within 2000 mm, meaning the sensor is less affected by the target's color or reflectivity within that range.
What is the difference between BX-G2000 and BX-S2000?
Both are diffuse reflective sensors with a 30-2000 mm adjustable range. BX-G2000 uses a wide, visible red LED spot, which is easier to align on uneven or slightly moving targets. BX-S2000 uses a visible laser with a 2-3 mm spot, suited for precise, pinpoint detection at range.
What is the output type and can the switching logic be changed?
All BX models are NPN output. The switching logic (N.O./N.C., i.e. Light-ON/Dark-ON) can be changed via the white wire, so the same sensor can be configured for either logic in the field.
What is the response time of the BX series?
All three BX models (H4000, G2000, S2000) have a 2 ms response time.
What power supply does the BX series require?
DC12-24V.
Is a PNP version of the BX series available?
The BX-H4000 has confirmed NPN and PNP variants (BX-H4000NPN / BX-H4000PNP). For BX-G2000 and BX-S2000, only the NPN version is currently confirmed in our catalog - please contact us to confirm PNP availability before ordering.
Are certification documents available for the BX series?
Certification documents are available on request.
