Overview
SN04 and TL-W5 are two related square-body inductive proximity switch models covering short sensing distances, built for machine builders, panel integrators, and OEMs who need a compact sensor for position and limit detection in automation equipment. SN04 is an 18x18x34mm cube-style body with a rounded sensing face and integral cable, rated for a 4mm sensing distance. TL-W5E1/F1/E2/F2 is a flatter, thinner rectangular body (42x25x10mm) with two Phi3.5mm mounting holes and a 50mm output cable, rated for 5mm (E suffix) or 7mm (F suffix) sensing distance.
Both series detect the presence of a metallic target without physical contact, and every model is offered in NPN or PNP output with normally-open (NO, suffix 1) or normally-closed (NC, suffix 2) switching logic. The published selection table lists a DC12-24V working voltage, a working temperature range of -25C to +55C, and ABS housing material, with a built-in LED status indicator on both SN04 and TL-W5E1 bodies for on-site confirmation during commissioning.
Features & Benefits
Compact Square Footprint for Tight Installation Spaces
SN04's 18x18x34mm body and TL-W5's slim 42x25x10mm body both suit panels or fixtures where a standard threaded barrel sensor won't fit.
Selectable NPN or PNP Output
Every model in the family is offered in both NPN and PNP variants (e.g. SN04N1/SN04P1, TL-W5E1/TL-W5F1), letting customers match the sensor to their existing PLC input card sinking or sourcing type without redesigning wiring.
NO or NC Logic to Match Control-Logic Needs
Suffix '1' gives normally-open (NO) output and suffix '2' gives normally-closed (NC) output across the family, so the same sensor family can serve either standard trigger logic or fail-safe wiring.
Two Documented Sensing Distances in the TL-W5 Sub-Series
TL-W5E (5mm) and TL-W5F (7mm) give customers a distance option within the same compact body style, useful when target-to-sensor gap tolerance varies slightly between installations.
Clear Color-Coded DC Wiring
The published wiring diagram defines brown (BN) = positive, blue (BU) = negative, black (BK) = NO signal, and white (WH) = NC signal, used together in the dual NO+NC variant, reducing wiring errors during installation.
Visual LED Status Indicator
Both SN04 and TL-W5E1 bodies include a built-in LED on the housing, marked on the dimension drawings, for on-site confirmation of switching state during commissioning and troubleshooting.
DC12-24V Supply Compatible with Standard Automation Power Rails
The published spec table lists a DC12-24V working voltage, matching the common 24VDC control power used in most industrial panels.
Applications
Models & Ordering Information
SN04 Series (Square Cube Body, 4mm Sensing Distance)
TL-W5 Series (Flat Body, Screw-Mountable)
How to Select
- Choose SN04 for the smallest cube body with the shortest sensing distance (18x18x34mm, 4mm).
- Choose TL-W5 for a flatter, screw-mountable body with a choice of two sensing distances.
- Within TL-W5, select the E suffix for 5mm sensing distance or the F suffix for 7mm sensing distance.
- Select N (NPN) or P (PNP) output to match your PLC input card's sinking or sourcing type.
- Select suffix 1 for normally-open (NO) output, or suffix 2 for normally-closed (NC) output.
- Confirm which specific part numbers support the 4-wire NO+NC dual-output wiring configuration with the factory before quoting.
- Confirm the DC12-24V supply matches your control cabinet power and that the operating temperature range (-25C to +55C) suits the installation site.

When NOT to specify the SN04 — and what to use instead
Washdown, dusty, or wet outdoor installations
Why not: No ingress protection (IP) rating is published in the current spec table for the SN04/TL-W5 series.
Use instead: Confirm the IP rating with the factory, or use a series in this catalog with a documented IP67 rating, such as the Q25/Q30/Q40 square series or the M8/M12/M18/M30 DC 2-wire series.
Detecting plastic, liquid, or other non-metallic targets
Why not: SN04 and TL-W5 are inductive switches, which respond only to metallic targets.
Use instead: A capacitive proximity sensor such as the Q20 square capacitive switch or the RS series.
Specifying a dual NO+NC (4-wire) output variant without checking availability first
Why not: The selection guide explicitly states that which part numbers support the 4-wire NO+NC dual-output wiring configuration must be confirmed with the factory before quoting.
Use instead: Confirm dual-output part number availability with the factory first, or specify a single NO or NC variant, which is fully documented.
Fast-cycling applications that require a documented switching frequency
Why not: No switching frequency or response time figure is published for the SN04/TL-W5 series in the current spec table.
Use instead: Confirm switching frequency with the factory, or use the Q25/Q30/Q40 series, which documents 500Hz/0.5ms response.
Machine guarding or personnel-safety interlocking
Why not: This is a standard non-contact position sensor with no safety rating or safety category listed in its specifications.
Use instead: a dedicated safety interlock switch (e.g. the DX-series safety door switch) or a safety light curtain

We only publish a figure once we are confident it is true. The items below are still being validated through further testing and real-world customer feedback, so for now we would rather leave them open than guess. If one of them matters to your design, ask us for the latest validated status.
- Ingress protection (IP) rating
- Switching frequency / response time
- Short-circuit and overload protection
- Non-ferrous correction factor
- MTBF (mean time between failures)
- SN04 cable length
- Certification status (CE/UL/RoHS, etc.)
