Overview

This is a threaded-body inductive proximity sensor series in three thread sizes -- M4x0.5 (25mm body), M5 (25mm body), and M6 (35mm body). Each size is available with NPN or PNP transistor output, in normally-open (NO) or normally-closed (NC) configuration, and with multiple sensing-distance options per size (from 0.6mm on M4 up to 1.5mm on M5/M6). All models use a 3-wire DC connection. Because the body is threaded, the sensor mounts with two nuts and can be finely adjusted for sensing gap -- useful where panel space is tight and a compact, non-contact metal-detecting switch is needed.

How to Select

  1. Match the mounting-hole thread size: M4x0.5 (25mm body) for M4 holes, M5 (25mm body) for M5 holes, M6 (35mm body, longer than M4/M5) for M6 holes.
  2. Pick a sensing-distance option close to the actual installation gap: M4 offers 0.6mm, 0.8mm, or 1.0mm; M5 and M6 offer 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, or 1.5mm.
  3. Choose N (NPN) for a sinking PLC input, or P (PNP) for a sourcing PLC input.
  4. Choose logic suffix 1 (NO) if the output should activate when the metal target is detected, or suffix 2 (NC) if the output should activate when the target is absent.

Detecting plastic, wood, liquid, or other non-metallic parts

Why not: This is an inductive-detection family (Sensing method: Inductive); no rating for non-metallic targets is listed.

Use instead: A capacitive proximity sensor series, which can detect non-metallic and liquid targets.

Application needs more than 1.5mm sensing distance

Why not: The largest sensing distance offered in this family is 1.5mm (M5/M6); the M4 size tops out at 1.0mm.

Use instead: DAIDISIKE's economy M8/M12/M18/M30 series (up to 15mm) or the M12 short-body series for longer sensing distances.

Need to know whether the sensor can be embedded flush in surrounding metal
