Overview

The Q25, Q30 and Q40 are square-shaped inductive proximity switches that detect metallic targets without physical contact, using an internal oscillator/coil sensing field. They are non-contact, wear-free position/presence sensors intended for machine builders, panel integrators and industrial automation engineers who need a compact-format sensor, as an alternative to round M-thread barrel sensors, for detecting metal parts, machine components, or moving mechanisms in production equipment, conveyors, and control cabinets.

The series offers three square body sizes with sensing distance matched to size: Q25 (25x25x35mm) and Q30 (30x30x38mm) provide 10mm or 15mm sensing distance, while Q40 (40x40x53mm) provides 15mm or 20mm sensing distance. Every sensing-distance option is available in NPN or PNP output with normally-open (N1/P1) or normally-closed (N2/P2) switching, powered by 10-30VDC via a 3-wire DC connection, and housed in IP67-rated PC plastic with a built-in LED status indicator.

Features & Benefits

Three body sizes for flexible mounting

Q25 (25x25x35mm), Q30 (30x30x38mm) and Q40 (40x40x53mm) let engineers pick the footprint that fits their existing panel cutout or bracket without redesigning the mounting.

Sensing distance matched to body size

Q25/Q30 offer 10mm or 15mm sensing distance, and Q40 offers 15mm or 20mm, so a longer detection range is available by moving up to the larger housing.

NPN/PNP x NO/NC selectable output

Every sensing-distance option is available in NPN or PNP, normally-open (N1) or normally-closed (N2), covering the two most common industrial output logics.

3-wire DC wiring with color-coded leads

Powered by 10-30VDC, 3-wire connection (brown +, blue -, black signal for NPN/NO shown in the wiring diagram), simplifying field wiring and reducing installation errors.

IP67-rated, PC-body construction

Sealed to IP67 and housed in PC plastic, suited to environments with dust, splashing water, or coolant spray commonly found around production machinery.

Fast response for automation timing

Response time of 0.5ms (1ms for the Q40 20mm option) with switching frequency up to 500Hz (300Hz for the longer-range option), suitable for detecting fast-moving or cyclic mechanical motion.

Built-in LED indicator

Every model includes an LED status indicator, allowing on-site technicians to visually confirm switching state without an external tester.

Overload and short-circuit protection

Rated maximum load current of 150mA with a 180mA overload protection point and short-circuit protection, reducing the risk of sensor damage from field wiring mistakes or load faults.

Applications

Machine end-of-travel / limit detection3-wire NO/NC output connects directly into a PLC as a limit-switch signal, and non-contact detection avoids the mechanical contact wear of traditional limit switches.
Conveyor and material-handling position sensing500Hz switching frequency and 0.5ms response time allow the sensor to track fast-moving metal parts or pallets passing on a conveyor line.
Panel/enclosure flush-mounting into automation cabinetsThe square housing fits flush into a panel cutout, saving mounting space compared with a cylindrical sensor.
Metal part presence/absence detection on production linesThe inductive sensing principle is designed specifically for metal targets, making it suitable for confirming whether a workpiece is in position.
Rotating or reciprocating mechanism position feedbackNon-contact operation eliminates mechanical wear, suiting mechanisms that cycle at high frequency over long periods.
Harsh or wet industrial environmentsIP67 protection and PC housing withstand splashing water and dust commonly found around production machinery.
Replacing worn mechanical limit switchesNon-contact detection removes the mechanical-contact wear issue, making the sensor a suitable upgrade replacement for mechanical limit switches.
PLC digital input signal generation (NPN/PNP selectable)NPN and PNP outputs match sink-type and source-type PLC input modules respectively, without requiring an extra conversion circuit.

How to Select

  1. Need 10mm sensing distance -> choose Q25 or Q30 series.
  2. Need 15mm sensing distance -> all three series (Q25/Q30/Q40) offer this option.
  3. Need 20mm sensing distance, the longest of the three series -> choose Q40 series.
  4. Small installation space or tight panel cutout -> choose Q25 (25x25x35mm).
  5. Medium installation space -> choose Q30 (30x30x38mm).
  6. Ample installation space and need for a longer sensing distance -> choose Q40 (40x40x53mm).
  7. PLC input is sink-type -> choose an NPN model (model number contains 'N', e.g. Q2510N1).
  8. PLC input is source-type -> choose a PNP model (model number contains 'P', e.g. Q2510P1).
  9. Need output ON when target is detected (normally-open logic) -> choose the N1/P1 suffix (NO).
  10. Need output OFF when target is detected (normally-closed logic, e.g. for safety interlocks) -> choose the N2/P2 suffix (NC).
  11. All three series are powered by 10-30VDC via a 3-wire DC connection; confirm the field supply voltage falls within this range.
  12. Model number reading example: Q2510N1 = Q25 series + 10mm sensing distance + NPN output + normally-open (NO).

When NOT to specify the Q25 — and what to use instead

Detecting plastic, liquid, or other non-metallic targets

Why not: Q25/Q30/Q40 are inductive sensors that detect metallic targets only, using an internal oscillator/coil sensing field.

Use instead: A capacitive proximity sensor such as the Q20 square capacitive switch or the RS series.

Mounting into a cutout or fixture smaller than 25x25x35mm

Why not: Q25 is the smallest body in this family at 25x25x35mm; none of the three sizes fit a smaller envelope.

Use instead: A smaller square series (e.g. Q08, Q10, or Q17/Q18C) or a threaded M8/M12 tubular sensor for tighter installation spaces.

Switching a load directly above the rated output current

Why not: Maximum load current is rated at 150mA with a 180mA overload protection point, per the spec table.

Use instead: Drive the load through an interposing relay or contactor rated above 150mA instead of wiring it directly to the sensor output.

Sensing aluminum, brass, or copper targets at the rated distance

Why not: No non-ferrous correction factor is published in the current spec table for this series.

Use instead: Confirm the correction factor with the factory before specifying for non-ferrous metal targets.

Machine guarding or personnel-safety interlocking

Why not: This is a standard non-contact position sensor with no safety rating or safety category listed in its specifications.

Use instead: a dedicated safety interlock switch (e.g. the DX-series safety door switch) or a safety light curtain
