Overview
The Q08 (Q082.5T / Q082.5F) is a DC 3-wire inductive proximity sensor housed in a small rectangular PC (polycarbonate) block, 8mm x 8mm in cross-section. It detects metal targets without physical contact at a rated sensing distance of 2.5mm. It is built for machine designers and panel builders who need to fit a proximity sensor into tight mechanical spaces, such as inside small fixtures, narrow slots, or compact automation modules, where standard cylindrical M8/M12 sensors are too large or the wrong shape to mount.
The series is offered in two sensing-face orientations: Q082.5T senses from the side face of the body (23mm body length) and Q082.5F senses from the top face (25mm body length), while both share the same 8mm x 8mm cross-section. Each body type is further available in NPN or PNP output with normally-open (NO) or normally-closed (NC) logic, giving four wiring/logic combinations per body style, all wired as DC 3-wire with BN(+), BK(signal), and BU(-) leads via a cable outlet.
Features & Benefits
Ultra-compact 8x8mm square footprint
The 8x8mm square cross-section fits into narrow mounting slots and small fixtures where cylindrical M8/M12 barrel-style sensors cannot be installed.
Two sensing-face orientations
Q082.5T senses from the side face while Q082.5F senses from the top face, letting the designer pick the orientation that matches the target's approach direction without redesigning the mounting bracket.
Flexible output configuration: NPN/PNP, NO/NC
Each body type (T or F) is available in NPN or PNP output, and normally-open (NO) or normally-closed (NC) logic, giving four wiring/logic combinations per body style to match the customer's existing PLC or controller input type.
Standard DC 3-wire connection with color-coded leads
Wired with BN (brown, +), BK (black, signal), and BU (blue, -) leads via a cable outlet, following a widely-used industry wire color convention that simplifies field wiring and troubleshooting.
Polycarbonate (PC) housing
The sensor body is molded in PC engineering plastic per the factory selection table, giving a lightweight, non-metallic enclosure suited to general indoor automation environments.
Clear, standardized model naming
The naming pattern Q08 + 2.5 (sensing distance) + T/F (body/sensing orientation) + N/P (NPN/PNP) + 1/2 (NO/NC) lets buyers read the exact specification directly from the part number.
Applications
Models & Ordering Information
Q082.5T (Side-Sensing)
Q082.5F (Top-Sensing)
How to Select
- Choose Q082.5T if the target approaches from the side of the sensor body (side-sensing, 23mm body length); choose Q082.5F if the target approaches from the top (top-sensing, 25mm body length).
- Both T and F body types in this series are rated at 2.5mm sensing distance; confirm the required detection gap in your application matches this rating.
- Select NPN (N) if your controller/PLC input card is sinking, or PNP (P) if it is sourcing; this must match your existing control wiring.
- Select "1" (normally open, NO) if the output should activate when a metal target is present, or "2" (normally closed, NC) if it should activate when no target is present.
- Both T and F types share the same 8mm x 8mm body cross-section; confirm this fits the available mounting cavity, noting the T-type is 23mm long and the F-type is 25mm long.
- Both types are supplied with a cable outlet (Φ3mm) wired DC 3-wire with BN(+)/BK(signal)/BU(-) leads; confirm this matches your junction/connector plan.

When NOT to specify the Q08 — and what to use instead
Needing side-sensing where an F (top-sensing) model was specified, or top-sensing where a T (side-sensing) model was specified
Why not: Q082.5T and Q082.5F have a fixed sensing-face orientation built into the body (side face vs. top face); the orientation is not field-adjustable.
Use instead: The other body variant in this same series - Q082.5T for side-sensing, Q082.5F for top-sensing - matched to the actual target approach direction.
Washdown, high-dust, or coolant-spray environments
Why not: No ingress protection (IP) rating is published in the current spec table for the Q08 series.
Use instead: Confirm the actual IP rating with the factory before specifying, or use a series in this catalog with a documented IP67 rating, such as the Q25/Q30/Q40 square series.
Outdoor installations or locations with wide temperature swings
Why not: No operating temperature range is published for the Q08 series in the current spec table.
Use instead: Confirm the operating temperature range with the factory, or use the M8/M12/M18/M30 DC 2-wire series, which is documented for -25C to +70C.
Detecting plastic, liquid, or other non-metallic targets
Why not: The Q08 series is an inductive sensor, which only detects metal targets.
Use instead: A capacitive proximity sensor such as the Q20 square capacitive switch or the RS series.
