Overview
This is a cylindrical M8-threaded capacitive proximity switch with a nickel-plated brass metal housing and a 2m PVC cable. Unlike inductive proximity switches, which only sense metal, capacitive sensing detects any material with a dielectric constant different from air, making it suitable for level sensing in tanks and hoppers, non-metallic part detection on a line, or sensing through a thin non-metallic container wall. It is intended for machine builders, packaging/filling line integrators, and material-handling OEMs who need a small-diameter (M8), short-range detection point for metal or non-metal targets.
The sensor detects at 1mm sensing distance in flush mounting or 2mm in non-flush ("T" suffix) mounting, in a compact M8x45mm IP67-rated metal body. It operates on 10-30VDC with NPN or PNP output in normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) logic, has a 1.5ms response time and 100Hz switching frequency, and includes built-in short-circuit protection plus an overload current protection point of 280mA and an LED status indicator.

How to Select
- Choose flush mounting (no "T" suffix, e.g. R0801N1) to embed level with a metal surface at 1mm sensing distance, or non-flush mounting ("T" suffix, e.g. R0802N1T) for a longer 2mm sensing distance with clearance around the sensing face.
- Match transistor output type to your PLC input card: NPN (sinking) or PNP (sourcing).
- Choose NO (normally open, output conducts on detection) or NC (normally closed, output opens on detection) switching logic.
- Wiring is 3-wire DC: brown (+), blue (-), black (signal output).
- Confirm the supply voltage (10-30VDC) and load current (max 150mA) match your application before selecting a part number.

When NOT to specify the M8 — and what to use instead
Detecting metal only, where sensitivity to nearby humidity, dust, or condensation is undesirable
Why not: Capacitive sensing responds to any material with a dielectric constant different from air, and no humidity/dust immunity spec is published for this series.
Use instead: The M8 inductive proximity sensor series, which senses metal only.
Sensing distances beyond 2mm
Why not: The maximum sensing distance in this series is 2mm (non-flush); this is a short-range family.
Use instead: The M12/M18/M30 metal-housing capacitive proximity sensor series, which reaches up to 30mm depending on model.
On-site fine-tuning of the trip point after installation
Why not: This M8 series has a fixed sensing distance per mounting type (1mm flush / 2mm non-flush) rather than a field-adjustable range.
Use instead: The M12 variant of the M8/M12 capacitive proximity switch with connector series, which offers a potentiometer-adjustable 1-6mm range.
Field-swappable cable or sensor without rewiring
Why not: This is the fixed 2m PVC cable-type version, not a plug-in connector variant.
