Overview
This is a three-wire DC inductive proximity sensor with an M12x1 threaded metal housing, designed to detect the presence of metal targets without contact. It is offered in a short 22mm super-short body, a 35mm body, and a 45mm body, each available in flush (shielded, "P" suffix) or non-flush (unshielded, "T" suffix) mounting styles, suiting machine builders, panel integrators, and maintenance engineers who need a compact, standard M12 footprint sensor for limit, position, or presence detection in space-constrained installations.
The series covers sensing distances from 2mm to 6mm on flush-mount variants and 4mm to 10mm on non-flush variants, running on a 10-30VDC three-wire DC supply with a maximum load current of 150mA and no-load current below 10mA. Response time is as fast as 0.1ms with switching frequency up to 1.5KHz, and the IP67-rated nickel-plated brass housing includes built-in short-circuit protection plus a 180mA overload current protection point.
Features & Benefits
Three Body Lengths, Including a True 22mm Super-Short Version
One family covers 22mm super-short, 35mm, and 45mm body lengths on the same M12x1 thread. Integrators can fit the sensor into shallow brackets or crowded fixtures where a standard 45mm-long M12 sensor won't physically fit, without switching to a different thread size.
Flush and Non-Flush Mounting in the Same Thread
Flush (P) versions can be mounted embedded in metal with the sensing face level with the surrounding surface for protection from side impact. Non-flush (T) versions give a longer sensing distance when embedded metal on the sides isn't a concern.
Sensing Distance Built Into the Model Code
Sensing distance is encoded directly into the part number - M1202 = 2mm, M1204 = 4mm, M1206 = 6mm flush; M1204T/M1208T/M1210T = 4/8/10mm non-flush. Customers order by catalog code rather than custom-specifying.
NPN/PNP and NO/NC as Standard Catalog Variants
Every sensing distance/length/mount combination is available in both NPN and PNP transistor output, and both normally-open (1) and normally-closed (2) logic, so it matches either sinking or sourcing PLC input cards without a special order.
IP67-Rated Housing for Washdown and Outdoor-Adjacent Environments
The nickel-plated brass housing carries an IP67 ingress protection rating, letting it tolerate splashes, coolant spray, and dust in typical factory-floor conditions.
Built-In Short-Circuit and Overload Protection
The sensor includes short-circuit protection and an overload current protection point of 180mA, reducing the risk of sensor burn-out from wiring mistakes or downstream faults during commissioning.
Fast Response for High-Speed Part Counting
Response time is as fast as 0.1ms with switching frequency up to 1.5KHz on the 22mm flush version, suitable for detecting fast-moving parts on conveyors or indexing mechanisms.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
Rated for -25C to +70C operation, covering most indoor industrial environments including unheated warehouses in cooler climates.

How to Select
- If installation depth is limited, choose the 22mm super-short body; for standard installations choose 35mm or 45mm - the longer the body, the more sensing-distance options are available (the 45mm body adds a 6mm flush step and 8mm/10mm non-flush steps).
- If the sensor will be surrounded by metal or needs embedded mounting, choose flush (P, flush mount); if there's no surrounding metal interference and a longer sensing distance is wanted, choose non-flush (T, model number contains "T").
- The digits in the model number (02/04/06/08/10) indicate the sensing-distance step - 2/4/6mm for the flush series and 4/8/10mm for the non-flush series; pick the model matching the actual target-to-sensor installation gap and leave a safety margin rather than mounting at the detection limit.
- Choose N (NPN) if the PLC input card is sinking-type wiring, or P (PNP) if it's sourcing-type wiring; the two electrical logics are different and cannot be mixed on the same wiring.
- The last digit of the model number is 1 for normally open (NO, output conducts when metal is detected) or 2 for normally closed (NC, output breaks when metal is detected) - choose based on PLC program logic or interlock requirements.
- The series is uniformly M12x1 threaded; the 22mm body also offers a 28mm installation-depth option - confirm the equipment's mounting-hole size and installation depth match before ordering.

When NOT to specify the M12 — and what to use instead
Detecting plastic, wood, liquid, or other non-metallic parts
Why not: The FAQ for this series states explicitly that as an inductive proximity sensor it is designed to detect metallic targets only.
Use instead: A capacitive proximity sensor series, which can detect non-metallic and liquid targets.
Application needs more than 10mm sensing distance
Why not: The maximum sensing distance in this family is 10mm, on the 45mm body in non-flush mounting.
Use instead: The economy M18/M30 series or the JM-series M18/M30 connector sensors, rated up to 40mm sensing distance.
Need more than 4mm non-flush sensing distance on the 22mm or 35mm body
Why not: Non-flush (T) sensing distance on the 22mm and 35mm bodies is limited to 4mm; the extra 8mm/10mm non-flush steps are only available on the 45mm body.
Use instead: The 45mm body in this same M12x1 thread size if a longer non-flush sensing distance is required.
High-speed line needing faster than 1.5KHz switching
Why not: The fastest switching frequency in this series is 1.5KHz, on the 22mm flush 2mm variant; frequency falls to 100Hz on the longest-range variants.
Use instead: The 22mm flush/2mm variant for top switching speed, or a photoelectric sensor if higher line speed is required.
Sensing an aluminum, brass, or copper target at the full rated distance
Why not: The rated Sn values (2mm-10mm) are standard inductive ratings with no non-ferrous correction factor documented in the spec sheet.
Use instead: Apply a reduction factor for non-ferrous targets (confirm the exact factor with the factory) or select the next-larger body/sensing-distance step for margin.
Machine-guard door interlocking or any personnel-safety function
Why not: The FAQ for this series notes that guard-door use is position detection only, not a safety-rated function, and no safety certification is listed.
Use instead: A dedicated safety-rated interlock switch or safety light curtain for guarding duty.
