Overview

JM18 and JM30 are inductive proximity sensors that detect the presence of metal targets without physical contact. Each sensor is built into a threaded metal barrel (M18 or M30) for standard panel/bracket mounting and terminates in an M12, 4-pin connector rather than a bare cable, so a mating M12 cable plugs directly into the sensor body.

They are intended for machine builders, panel integrators, and maintenance teams who need a proximity sensor that can be unplugged and swapped without re-terminating wires. The series covers five sensing-distance positions per body size, with NPN/PNP output and NO/NC logic all available, on a 10-30VDC supply with IP67 protection.

Features & Benefits

M12 Quick-Disconnect Wiring

The sensor terminates in an M12, 4-pin connector so the field cable simply plugs in. No stripping, crimping, or re-terminating wires when installing or swapping a sensor.

Two Body Sizes, Five Sensing-Distance Options Each

JM18 offers rated sensing distances of 5/8/12mm (flush) and 8/16/20mm (non-flush); JM30 offers 10/15/22mm (flush) and 15/25/40mm (non-flush), covering short- to long-range detection within one connector-style product line.

NPN/PNP and NO/NC Configurations in One Series

Every sensing-distance variant is available as NPN or PNP output, and as normally-open (NO) or normally-closed (NC), letting the same series match different PLC input card types and logic requirements.

10-30VDC Wide Supply Range

Operates across a standard industrial DC supply range of 10-30VDC, compatible with common 24VDC control cabinets.

IP67 Ingress Protection

Rated IP67, suitable for environments with dust, splashing, or occasional washdown exposure.

Built-in Short-Circuit and Overload Protection

The sensor includes short-circuit protection and an overload current protection point of 180mA, reducing the risk of sensor damage from wiring faults.

LED Status Indication

All variants include a built-in LED for visual on/off status confirmation during commissioning and troubleshooting.

Fast Response for High-Speed Counting/Detection

Response time as fast as 0.2ms and switching frequency up to 1KHz on the shortest-range variants, suitable for higher-speed detection or counting tasks.

Applications

Conveyor and Line-Position DetectionIP67 protection, standard M18/M30 mounting dimensions, and flexible NO/NC output suit common in-position or counting detection on production lines.
Machine Builders Standardizing on Connector-Type SensorsM12 connector output lets integrators pre-make cable assemblies and simply plug sensors in on the assembly line, shortening wiring labor.
Quick Sensor Replacement Without Re-WiringMaintenance staff can swap a failed sensor by unplugging and re-plugging the M12 connector, without stripping wires or powering down to re-terminate.
High-Speed Counting or Pulse DetectionThe shortest-range variants respond in as little as 0.2ms with switching frequency up to 1KHz, suitable for faster target-passing detection.
Applications Requiring Different PLC Logic (Sinking/Sourcing, NO/NC)NPN/PNP and NO/NC combinations are all available within the series, so a single product line can cover multiple control-system requirements.
Long-Range Detection with Non-Flush MountingNon-flush (T-suffix) models reach farther than their flush counterparts at the same position, up to 40mm on JM3040, for targets set back from the mounting face.
Washdown-Tolerant or Dusty Industrial EnvironmentsIP67 protection supports typical dust and occasional splash exposure in general industrial settings; it is not intended for high-pressure washdown or continuous immersion.

How to Select

  1. Choose M18 or M30 based on available thread/mounting space and required sensing distance -- M30 supports longer range than M18.
  2. Choose flush or non-flush mounting based on installation clearance: flush mount tolerates surrounding metal but has a shorter rated sensing distance, while non-flush mount needs clearance around the sensing face but reaches farther.
  3. Select the sensing-distance position that matches your detection range: JM18 flush 5/8/12mm, JM18 non-flush 8/16/20mm, JM30 flush 10/15/22mm, JM30 non-flush 15/25/40mm.
  4. Choose NPN (N) for sinking-type PLC input cards, or PNP (P) for sourcing-type input cards.
  5. Choose normally-open (1/NO) for standard on-when-detected logic, or normally-closed (2/NC) for the inverse logic.
  6. Choose the length variant based on installation depth: JM18 offers 79mm or 50mm; JM30 offers 78mm or 50mm.
  7. Confirm the wiring: all variants are 3-wire DC with an M12, 4-pin connector, and require a matching M12 cable (BN=+, BU=-, BK=signal, plus WH on dual-output NO+NC variants).

When NOT to specify the JM — and what to use instead

Detecting plastic, wood, liquid, or other non-metallic parts

Why not: This is an inductive sensor built to detect metal targets; no non-metallic detection rating is listed.

Use instead: A capacitive proximity sensor series, which can detect non-metallic and liquid targets.

Application needs more than 40mm sensing distance

Why not: The longest rated sensing distance in this series is 40mm, on the JM30 non-flush variant; JM18 non-flush tops out at 20mm.

Use instead: A photoelectric sensor for longer-range, non-contact detection.

High-speed counting needing more than 1KHz switching

Why not: Switching frequency reaches up to 1KHz only on the shortest sensing-distance variants and falls to 100Hz on the longest-range (e.g. JM3040 non-flush) variants.

Use instead: A shorter-range flush variant such as JM1805 (0.2ms/1KHz), or a photoelectric sensor if higher line speed is required.

Washdown-intensive or wide-temperature-extreme installation

Why not: Only an IP67 rating is published for this series; no operating-temperature range or housing material is stated, unlike other DAIDISIKE inductive lines that publish a -25°C to +70°C range.

Use instead: Confirm ambient-temperature suitability with the factory before specifying, or use the D6.5 or M12 22/35/45mm series, which document a -25°C to +70°C range.

Driving a load requiring more current than the sensor is rated to carry

Why not: This series' spec sheet lists an overload protection trip point of 180mA but does not state a maximum continuous load current figure.

Use instead: Confirm maximum load current with the factory, or interpose a relay for heavier loads.

Machine-guard interlocking or any personnel-safety function

Why not: No functional-safety or safety-rated certification is listed for this series.

Use instead: A dedicated safety-rated interlock switch or safety light curtain for guarding duty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between JM18 and JM30 series?
JM18 uses an M18-threaded sensor barrel and JM30 uses an M30-threaded barrel. The larger M30 body generally supports longer sensing distances (up to 40mm non-flush) compared to JM18 (up to 20mm non-flush).
What connector does the JM series use?
The JM series terminates in an M12, 4-pin connector rather than a fixed cable, so it connects via a mating M12 cable rather than direct wire termination.
What is the difference between flush and non-flush mounting?
Flush-mount sensors can be installed with the sensing face level with surrounding metal without affecting detection, but have a shorter rated sensing distance. Non-flush sensors require clearance around the sensing face but achieve a longer rated sensing distance -- for example, JM18 flush is rated up to 12mm while JM18 non-flush is rated up to 20mm.
What is the supply voltage range?
10-30VDC.
What is the ingress protection rating?
IP67.
Does the sensor have short-circuit protection?
Yes. The sensor includes short-circuit protection, with an overload current protection point of 180mA.
What is the maximum switching frequency?
Up to 1KHz on the shortest sensing-distance variants (e.g., JM18 5mm flush); switching frequency decreases as rated sensing distance increases, down to 100Hz on the longest-range variants (e.g., JM30 40mm non-flush).
Does the sensor have an LED indicator?
Yes, all JM series variants include a built-in LED for status indication.
What output types are available -- NPN or PNP, NO or NC?
Both. Each sensing-distance variant is offered in NPN and PNP output, and in normally-open (NO) and normally-closed (NC) configuration.
Are certification documents (e.g., CE, RoHS) available for the JM series?
Certification documents are available on request.
