Overview
JNS-W70 and JNS-W500 are photoelectric color/contrast mark sensors using a white LED emitter. JNS-W70 detects at 30-70mm and JNS-W500 detects at 50-500mm, both far beyond the typical few-millimeter to few-tens-of-millimeter working distance of conventional color mark sensors. They are built for machine builders and packaging/converting line integrators who need to detect a printed mark, label edge, or contrast boundary but cannot, or prefer not to, mount the sensor directly against the material.
The extended range lets the sensor be positioned away from heat sealing bars, splash or spray zones, web-change areas, or behind a machine-frame or guard opening. Both models share the same electrical and output specification: a white LED light source, switchable NPN/PNP open-collector output with selectable N.O./N.C. logic, IO-Link communication, five response speed settings, four timer modes, 10-30VDC supply, and an IP65-rated 128g housing.

Detection Range Up to 500mm
JNS-W500 detects at 50-500mm and JNS-W70 at 30-70mm, letting the sensor be positioned well clear of the material surface, or behind a machine-frame opening, on installations where close-mounted contrast sensors cannot be used.
White LED Emitter for a Wide Range of Mark/Background Colors
A white LED covers the full visible spectrum, so the sensor is not limited to one target color the way a single-color LED emitter is, letting it handle a wider range of mark and background color combinations.
Switchable NPN/PNP Output Plus Selectable N.O./N.C.
One sensor covers open-collector NPN or PNP output (≤30V, ≤100mA, residual voltage ≤2V), each switchable to N.O. or N.C. logic, so one part number fits different PLC input types.
IO-Link Communication Interface

How to Select
- Choose JNS-W70 when the mounting distance is 30-70mm and a finer light spot is needed to resolve small marks.
- Choose JNS-W500 when the mounting distance is 50-500mm or greater installation freedom/standoff is required.
- For small marks needing fine resolution, JNS-W70's ~1.6x2.9mm spot at 50mm is the better fit; for larger marks or longer standoff, JNS-W500's φ3.5mm-φ20mm spot range suits the longer distance.
- Both models support NPN/PNP open-collector switching and N.O./N.C. switching on the same unit, so PLC input type (NPN commonly used in Japan, PNP commonly used in Europe/US) can be set on site without ordering a different model.
- If the installation needs to connect to an IO-Link master for remote parameter setting, both models support IO-Link.
- For high-speed lines or narrow marks, select a shorter response setting (200μs/1ms); for unstable signals or where a more stable reading is needed, select a longer setting (100ms/500ms), and pair with the timer function (OFF/on-delay/off-delay/one-shot) to shape the output.

When NOT to specify the JNS-W70 — and what to use instead
The task is classifying or verifying an actual color among several variants, not detecting a mark/contrast boundary.
Why not: JNS-W70/W500 is a color/contrast mark sensor that switches output on a detected mark or contrast boundary; no color-discrimination count (number of colors distinguishable) is documented for it, unlike DAIDISIKE's dedicated color sensors.
Use instead: The CZ-V21 RGB color sensor for true color classification.
The mark is extremely small and needs a sub-millimeter spot at very close range to resolve reliably.
Why not: Even the finer JNS-W70 head has a spot of approx. 1.6 x 2.9mm at 50mm, and its minimum detection range is 30mm; it is not built as a fine, close-mount design.
Use instead: A fiber-optic color-mark sensor for tiny marks.
The sensor must be mounted very close to the material, within a few millimeters to 25mm, with no room for standoff distance.
Why not: JNS-W70's minimum detection range is 30mm and JNS-W500's minimum is 50mm; neither model is rated below 30mm.
Use instead: The FS-S72 (18-28mm) or PZ-LX101 (8-25mm) for close-mount installations.
The installation is in a hazardous or explosive atmosphere requiring explosion-proof or ATEX-rated equipment.
Why not: JNS-W70/W500 is rated IP65 (dust-tight, protected against water jets) only; no explosion-proof or hazardous-area rating is documented.
Use instead: Contact DAIDISIKE to confirm a certified hazardous-area alternative before specifying for such environments.
