Overview
CZ-V1 is an amplifier-separate photoelectric color sensor built for machine builders and line engineers who need to verify a target's color — not just detect its presence — as part of an automated inspection or sorting step. The amplifier is available in NPN (CZ-V1, max. 40 VDC / 100 mA) or PNP (CZ-V1P) output, pairs with interchangeable sensor heads, and runs on a 12–24 VDC supply.
The CZ-V1 amplifier discriminates more than 1,000 colors and can teach up to four target colors into a single unit, with selectable match (ON on match) or mismatch (ON on mismatch) output logic. Two response-time settings — 200 μs in HSP mode and 1 ms in FINE mode — plus three selectable detection modes (C, C+I, I) let one sensor platform cover both high-speed and general-purpose color verification tasks.

When NOT to specify the CZ-V1 — and what to use instead
The task is detecting a printed registration mark or eyemark on packaging/printed material to trigger a cutting, sealing, or bag-forming action, rather than judging or matching a color.
Why not: The CZ-V1's own FAQ distinguishes it from a color mark sensor: CZ-V1 is a color discrimination sensor that determines what color a target is or whether it matches a taught color, a different inspection level than simple mark/position detection.
Use instead: A dedicated color-mark sensor such as the FS-S72 or PZ-LX101 for straightforward registration-mark position detection.
More than four target colors must be taught into one unit, or more than four independent detection channels are needed.
Why not: The CZ-V1 amplifier teaches up to four target colors across four channels; it does not offer additional channels or teach slots.
Use instead: The CZ-V21 RGB color sensor, which offers 8 independent channels and can teach up to 8 target colors.
The target surface is glossy, metallic, or film-wrapped and specular glare must be suppressed to read the true underlying color.
Why not: CZ-V1's interchangeable heads are limited to small-spot, long-range large-spot, and short-range small-spot types; no luster-cancellation head is listed for this amplifier.
Use instead: The CZ-V21 RGB color sensor paired with its CZ-C37 luster-cancellation head for glossy or metallic surfaces.
The downstream control needs the sensor itself to shape output timing (on-delay, off-delay, or one-shot) rather than relying on external PLC logic.
Why not: CZ-V1's documented output logic is limited to selectable match/mismatch switching; no timer function is specified for this amplifier.
Use instead: The CZ-V21 RGB color sensor, which lists adjustable timer functions (OFF/on-delay/off-delay/one-shot, 1-1000ms) per channel.
Discrimination finer than 1,000 colors is required, such as separating subtle shade variations between near-identical parts.
